Course Description

This course focuses on many of the administrative and risk issues to consider when delivering healthcare through telemedicine. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, telehealth allowed for continued patient access to care for many. When utilized appropriately, patient safety, convenience, efficacy, and experience of care are at high levels. Since the provision of medicine is almost exclusively governed at the state level, the primary considerations associated with telemedicine are examined in the course. State specific rules for licensure, informed consent, standard of care, jurisdiction as well as technology, privacy, and security all must be considered before adding telemedicine as a method to deliver care. This course offers an overview of telemedicine topics, providing general guidance as to the risks and liabilities of telemedicine and payment considerations.

Learning Objectives
  1. Identify the primary administrative considerations associated with telemedicine
  2. Recognize risk issues associated with delivery of care through telemedicine
  3. Develop risk reduction strategies related to informed consent, technology, and documentation
