Course Description

The purpose of this course is to discuss the legalities and risks associated with the use of telemedicine, electronic health records (EHR) and patient portals, as well as, provide an overview of current cyber liability issues in the medical profession. 

Learning Objectives
  1. Recognize and identify the limitations and risks of telemedicine.
  2. Develop safeguards and protocols to protect against/report cyber attacks.
  3. Identify and explain the risks associated with misuse of EHR and patient portals that affect patient safety.
  4. Recognize how EHR errors can decrease defensibility of a malpractice claim.

AOA: The American Osteopathic Association has approved this program for two (2) credit hours in Category 2-B of the Continuing Medical Education Program. Physicians will need to submit a letter of completion from the University of Tennessee directly to the AOA to receive CME credits.

Continuing Education for Non-Physicians: The UTCOM will issue Certificates of Completion to non-physicians for completing this activity and designates it for a maximum of .2 CEUs using the national standard that 1 hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU.
