Course Description

Each year, the Risk Department at SVMIC receives a multitude of questions relating to patient safety, malpractice risks, and other regulatory, ethical, and legal issues. This course will address the most frequently asked questions with the goal of providing guidance to improve patient safety, reduce malpractice risks, and increase adherence with applicable regulations, statutes, and ethical guidelines.

Learning Objectives
  1. Identify areas where there is a knowledge gap related to certain topics that are common in most medical settings
  2. Summarize the various regulations, laws, and ethical rules applicable to these topics
  3. Explain ways to improve adherence resulting in increased patient safety and lower potential liability for the physician or provider

Accreditation:  This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine (UTCOM) and State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company (SVMIC). The UTCOM is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
