This course is required by the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard for all employees and providers at risk for exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. The course addresses how bloodborne pathogens are spread, ways to avoid exposure, and how to respond in the event of an occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

REVIEWING THIS MODULE BY ITSELF WILL NOT MEET THE INITIAL AND ANNUAL OSHA TRAINING REQUIREMENTS AS SPECIFIED IN THE OSHA BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS STANDARD. IT IS REQUIRED THAT AN INTERACTIVE Q&A SESSION BE COMPLETED WITH THE OFFICE'S ONSITE SAFETY OFFICER. THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENT TO COMPLETE THAT SESSION IS PROVIDED IN THIS MODULE.

Learning Objectives
- Recognize the OSHA regulations regarding hazards associated with potential exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials and the responsibilities of employers and employees.
- Understand the definition of bloodborne pathogens, how they are transmitted, and the common pathogens in a medical practice setting and their symptoms.
- Understand the common methods of preventing exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials and how to respond in the event of an exposure.
- Meet the training requirements for OSHA's BBP by utilizing this presentation combined with the Interactive BBP and Safety Training Session document.
